1.) "I stare down at my shoes, watching as a fine layer of ash settles on the worn leather. This is where the bed I shared with my sister, Prim, stood. Over there was the kitchen table. The bricks of the chimney, which collapsed in a charred heap, provide a point of reference for the rest ofthe house. How else could I orient myself in this sea of gray?"
This passage enhances my reading experience because it is written in great detail. It describes where Katniss lives and it describes the destruction that took place when her district was bombed by the Capitol. It sets the stage for the whole book.

2.) If the main charcter of my book were placed in the world today it would be completely different for her. Life would be a lot easier for Katniss. She could live with her family in peace witrhout having to worry about leading a rebellion against the Capitol. She could just live a normal and safe life. Katniss would be able to easily handle what is in store for our country because there is no way that it could be any worse than conditions of her life in the book.

The characters and events in my book relate to characters and events that I have seen in TV shows, movies, and read about in other books. For example, Katniss's family is poor and is struggling just to get by. That is just like Frankie's family in Angela's Ashes. Another example is when they talk about escaping from the Hunger Games arena (which actually took place in the second book is referred back to a number of times in this book). Katniss was rescued from the arena by the rebels. That is like when Han Solo and Luke Skywalkwer rescued Princess Leiha from the empire in Star Wars.

(1a) A character that I really like in my book so far is Gale. Gale is the main character's best friend. He will do anything to defend Katniss even if it puts his life in danger. He tries to protect her as best as he can. He is calm and smart and is able to see some of the things that Katniss overlooks. An example of why I like Gale is when Katniss is trying to make the decision of whether or not to be the Mockingjay for the rebels. Through the whole process Gale is there to support her and make sure that she makes the right decision. If he found 100$ on the ground, he would probably take it but then give most of it to Katniss. This is times are very hard in the time of this book and any money that you can get is helpful no matter what way you get it.

This picture is the rebel alliance in Star Wars. This represents the rebels in district 13 that are fighting back against the Capitol.

I chose the book MockinJay by Suzanne Collins. It is the third and final book in the Hunger Games series. I chose this book for a number of reasons. First of all I read the first book in the series and it was really good so I wanted to read another one in the series. I skipped the second book and went straight to the third one. When I first started looking I had no clue what I wanted to read. I looked around for a while and then I saw MockingJay. I picked it up because the cover looked similar to that of The Hunger Games, the first book in the series. I looked at it and I was right, it was a part of the series. From there the decision was easy because the second book in the series was out of the library. That is why I chose MockingJay.
